Charlotte's Cure Dinner

We received Charlotte’s diagnosis on a Wednesday afternoon, December 13, 2023. We spent months searching for answers and genetic testing finally told us - Charlotte has a rare genetic condition called Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T). When we talked to our Geneticist we quickly took notes that looked like gibberish. What did Ataxia Telangiectasia even mean? We certainly couldn’t spell it, let alone attempt to pronounce it, but we listened intently through tears in those next few minutes as our world came crashing down. We were told that our perfect little 2 year old girl would eventually lose her ability to walk and would likely depend on a wheelchair by the age of 10. We were told that she would eventually struggle with speech, eye-tracking and swallowing. That she was highly susceptible to develop lung infections and 1,000 times more likely to develop cancers than other children. We were told that most children with A-T do not survive past their 20s. Then, we were told that there is no cure. Just a few days after we received Charlotte’s diagnosis we connected with the A-T Children’s Project (A-TCP). I can’t even begin to tell you what a blessing they have been for us. The A-TCP is a non-profit that is working vigorously with researchers around the world to FIND A CURE and life improving therapies for A-T.
